More than 300 babies are stuck in hospitals for months because their parents abandoned them or have no place to take them home.

 Their home is a crib.

What does this mean for them?

There is no one to hug them.

There is no one to nurse them.

There is no one to hold them.

“Kincső was the only baby in the hospital whose mother left her. She was lucky, as the orderlies, office staff, and nurses took turns holding her.”

(Ivett, infant nurse)

“We have 5 babies right now. There are too few nurses, we only have time to bathe and feed them, maybe a little stroke. It’s a terrible feeling that we can’t give them more.”

(Anna, infant nurse)

2,000 foster parents are missing to ensure every child can be placed in a family.

SOS Children’s Villages’ campaign aims to raise awareness about these infants and promote foster parenting, highlighting its importance to the public.

Why are babies stuck in hospitals?

Because their parents cannot take care of them, they do not take them home from the hospital after birth, so these babies end up in state care. According to the law, all children under the age of 12 must be placed with a foster parent, but there are not enough foster parents.

Where do babies go if their parents don’t take them home?

If the parent relinquishes them, they become eligible for adoption. However, until adoption, they still need to be placed somewhere. If there is no available foster parent, the baby is placed in a children’s home, where they receive significantly less attention than in a family. When there is no room with foster parents or in children’s homes, the baby remains in the hospital, sometimes for months on end.

How can you help?

You can make a difference in the lives of these babies by offering your support and spreading the word. –

  • Support our cause: Consider making a financial contribution to assist in providing care for vulnerable children.
  • Raise awareness: The more people who know about this issue, the greater the chance of finding loving homes for these babies.
  • Engage in conversations: Discuss the importance of foster care and child welfare in your social circles. Your voice can help keep this vital topic alive and encourage others to take action.
